5 Stories of Ghosts Haunting Cricketers in Lumley Castle and Langham Hotel


Ghosts, this is a debatable topic some say Ghosts exist and some say no, keeping that aside there are many stories revolving around the Ghosts and we can also find some of these stories which are linked to Cricketers in a couple of England hotels Lumley Castle and Langham Hotel.

1. Sourav Ganguly, Harsha Bhogle and Navjot Singh Sidhu:

There is not much left to say after watching the video of Harsha Bhogle explaining and It happened during the 2002 NatWest series, no Cricket fan can ever forget, that series is even widely spoken today because of Ganguly removing his shirt after winning against England at the Lords Cricket Stadium.

Sourav Ganguly does have his own explanation about the Lumley Castle, Ganguly said after coming back from practice he has dinner with teammates and went to his room and climbed on his bed and then he heard some Tap water sound.

Ganguly said, “I got up, switched on the lights and went to turn off the water. The taps were already off. I thought I must have dreamt it or heard it from another room. I went back to bed, making sure everything was turned off and the place was quiet, then fell back asleep.” But after falling asleep for half an hour, once again the tap water noise awoke him and this time it really spooked him. He once again checked the bathroom and taps were off”.

Then he decided to keep the lights on and tried to sleep in that way but he couldn’t. After a long time, when he couldn’t fall asleep in light, he decided to turn off the lights. But, once again the tap water started running.  ganguly said, “I jumped out of bed and ran out… I was terrified and went to Robin Singh’s room, knocked on his door and asked if I could come in and stay in his room. I was the captain, so I couldn’t tell him I was scared and was worried about the ghosts, could I? Then I told him the floor would be fine and he was very kind to let me stay.”

2. Shane Watson:

Once again it’s in the Durham’s Lumley Castle, it happened during the Ashes 2005 series, Australian All-rounder and opener Shane Watson felt something wrong in his room as he felt the presence of someone else in his room. After this incident, Frightened Shane Watson slept in Brett Lee’s room. Australia’s media manager even claimed that she saw a ghost in the hotel.  “I saw ghosts. I swear I’m telling the truth,” she admitted.

3. West Indies Team:

This is the First incident of haunting on cricketers in Lumley Castle, and it happened way back in 2001 when West Indies is touring England this was revealed by West Indies captain of that time Jimmy Adams, three players of West Indies checked out before the night of the match at Chester-le-Street and stayed at another hotel with their own expenses. However, those three players’ names were not revealed by Adams or Team management.

Some locals claim that the Lumley Castle is haunted since the 14th century and according to them, the lady of the castle, Lily Lumley was murdered by two priests in the castle when she refused to practice and follow the Catholic church.

4. Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes:

This time it’s Langham Hotel in London and it happened during 2014 when Sri Lanka is playing a test series against England. Stuart Broad claimed that the taps in the bathroom turned on for no reason and said his girlfriend Bealey was so frightened after this and they ended up asking for a new room.

The same thing happened with Ben Stokes in the same hotel during the India Tour of England in same year 2014.

5. MS Dhoni

In 2014, during the India tour of England, Dhoni claimed that he spotted a mysterious shadow in his room at Langham Hotel.
